Channel 5 has closed a deal with Beta Film to acquire the excusive first run UK broadcast rights to Hallmark’s original drama series Cedar Cove for their 5USA channel. The show’s first season, which consists of a two-hour pilot and twelve hour-long episodes, is set to premiere on 5USA on Sunday February 9th at 4pm.
Based on the book series by Debbie Macomber, Cedar Cove follows Olivia Lockhart, the resident judge of the idyllic coastal town of Cedar Cove in the American Northwest. Her cases run the gamut of small-town crime and civil disputes, many of which need to be handled with as much brains as common sense, as much candidness as tact. On track for a Federal Judgeship, her world is soon turned upside down by the arrival of Jack Griffith, the new editor of the Cedar Cove Chronicle who winds up being an unlikely love-interest. The drama series, which was recently renewed for a second season, is produced by Orchard Road Production and stars Andie MacDowell, Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Corey Sevier, Paula Shaw, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven and Elyse Levesque.
Cedar Cove is the latest scripted import for Channel 5 who have been making same changes in that area over the past few months. Other recent acquisitions include Helix for Channel 5 and Canadian drama series Played for 5USA. The broadcaster has also recently dropped US series Justified, Once Upon A Time and The Walking Dead, whilst also securing the free-to-air rights to A&E’s Longmire and TNT’s science-fiction series Falling Skies.
