Channel 4 has set a UK premiere date for Masters of Sex, with the American drama arriving on Tuesday October 8th, days after its launch on Showtime in the States.
Developed by Michelle Ashford and based on Thomas Maier’s biography, the series dramatises the work of Dr. William Masters and Virginia Johnson, the researchers who set out to study human sexuality at Washington University in St. Louis from the 1950s onwards. Michael Sheen plays Masters, an esteemed but buttoned-up obstetrician, with Lizzy Caplan as Johnson, the sharp former nightclub singer who becomes his research partner and more.
As the pair pursue their controversial study in the face of institutional disapproval, the drama follows both the science and the complicated personal relationship that develops between them. The twelve-part first season also features Caitlin FitzGerald, Beau Bridges and Margo Martindale.
