ITV has released a trailer for the upcoming episode of Poirot titled Elephants Can Remember, which is set to premiere on Sunday June 9th at 8pm.

An adaptation of the novel of the same name, Elephants Can Remember follows Poirot who is pre-occupied with investigating the strange and gruesome murder of an elderly psychiatrist when his old friend, the crime writer Ariadne Oliver, finds herself with a case of her own to solve. She is pressed by the loathsome Mrs Burton-Cox to uncover the truth of two decade-old deaths; were they murders or a double-suicide? In spite of Mrs Burton-Cox’s impertinence, Ariadne can’t help but be curious, and she takes it upon herself to set matters straight when her god-child, Celia, the dead couple’s daughter, begs her to uncover the truth. However, Poirot’s skills remain engaged elsewhere, as the case of the dead professor twists and turns, with Poirot reluctant to accept that his good friend, the psychiatrist’s son, Doctor Willoughby, is himself responsible. So Ariadne sets off on a journey into the past to dig for the facts, but theories abound as memories get muddled and old secrets remain stubbornly hidden. Before long though, the old Ravenscroft puzzle is pulled sharply into the present-day, when the life of Desmond, Mrs Burton-Cox’s son and Celia’s intended, is threatened by a mysterious figure in black… Poirot’s already twitching mind is immediately piqued, and when he realises the murder of his old professor is connected with Mrs Oliver’s investigation, and so they join forces to close the case. The drama is co-produced by ITV Studios & Agatha Christie Ltd and stars David Suchet, Zoë Wanamaker, Greta Scacchi, Vanessa Kirby, Adrian Lukis, Annabel Mullion, Ferdinand Kingsley, Iain Glen, Jo-Anne Stockham, Vincent Regan, Alexandra Dowling, Danny Webb, Elsa Mollien, Claire Cox, Caroline Blakiston, Hazel Douglas, Maxine Evans and Ruth Sheen.

  1. As die-hard Poirot fans, my husband and I were looking forward with great anticipation to the 5 new episodes to be broadcast on ITV.
TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT. The direction of Elephants Can Remember was disappointing. The fact that the scenes were almost all in semi-darkness, even though Poirot’s apartment building was the same from outside as in the earlier series. No Miss Lemon or Captain Hastings who added to the original series immensely. We switched off after 30 minutes.
As a fan, this just doesn’t feel like a Poirot mystery at all.
The earlier episodes were far superior to this one. Maybe ‘arty-farty’ directors should be side-lined to allow a winning formula to be re-instated!
