Lovefilm has acquired the exclusive UK rights to Vikings, with Amazon’s streaming service setting a premiere for May 24th. All nine episodes of the first season will be available to Lovefilm Instant subscribers from launch, in high definition.
Created by Michael Hirst, the writer behind The Tudors, Vikings is History’s first scripted drama. It follows Ragnar Lothbrok, played by Travis Fimmel, a restless Norse farmer and warrior who believes himself descended from the god Odin and sets out to raid the lands to the west, beginning with England, rising to become a legend among his people.
The series had already drawn strong reviews and audiences after its US launch earlier in the year. Putting the whole season online at once lets UK viewers watch at their own pace, and marks a notable exclusive for Lovefilm as it builds out its slate.
