Archive: Gerard McCarthy Joins Cast Of History’s ‘Vikings’ – TVWise

Irish actor Gerard McCarthy (Hollyoaks, The Fall) has been cast in History’s upcoming original drama series Vikings, TVWise has learned. McCarthy has been cast as Bronsted, a Viking warrior.
Speaking of his new role on Vikings, McCarthy said: “I can’t wait to start working on Vikings, I’ve never been so excited about getting into a costume before. Dressing up as a sword wielding warrior is every little boy’s dream… I still haven’t grown out of that phase!”
Vikings was created by Michael Hirst and is a series high on adventure, exploration, conflict, warfare and bloodshed – for these were extreme times – but, at its heart, it will also be a family saga. It follows the adventures of Ragnar Lothbrok, a historical figure, and the greatest hero of his age – and the gripping sagas of Ragnar’s band of Viking brothers and his family – as he rises to become King of the Viking tribes. The drama series stars Gabriel Byrne (In Treatment), Travis Fimmel (The Beast), Jessalyn Gilsig (Glee), Gustaf Skarsgard (The Way Back), Clive Standen (Camelot) and Katheryn Winnick (Stand Up Guys).
Vikings is an international Irish/Canadian co-production being co-produced by World 2000 and Take 5 Productions, which will begin shooting in Co Wicklow next month. The series will be filmed at Ashford Studios, a newly built studio facility in Ireland. Michael Hirst, Morgan O’Sullivan, Nancy Dubuc, Dirk Hoogstra, and Julian P. Hobbs are serving as executive producers. Vikings will air on History in the US and Canada. MGM is handling international distribution.
