Exclusive: I have just learned that Universal Channel has closed a deal to acquire the UK broadcast rights to NBC’s short lived remake of Prime Suspect from ITV Studios Global Entertainment. I’m also being told that Universal Channel has set the premiere for the show’s 13 episode first season for Monday June 18th at 10pm.

Based on the ITV series of the same name, Prime Suspect was developed for US television by Peter Berg and Alexandria Cunningham and follows Jane Timoney, an NYPD homicide detective who has recently transferred to a new squad where she is already disliked by all of her colleagues. Detective Timoney has to fight to earn the respect of her male colleagues while serving the city of New York. The drama series stars Maria Bello, Aidan Quinn, Kirk Acevedo, Tim  Griffin, Brian F. O’Byrne, Damon Gupton and Peter Gerety. Prime Suspect is produced by Universal Television, ITV Studios America and Film 44, with Peter Berg, Alexandria  Cunningham, Lynda La Plante, Sarah Aubrey, Paul Buccieri, Julie Meldal-Johnson and John McNamara serving as executive producers.
