Gerard McCarthy (Hollyoaks) has joined BBC Two’s upcoming psychological thriller series The Fall, TVWise has confirmed. Both the BBC and production company Artists Studio are staying quiet on the exact nature of the part, but I’m being told that it is a recurring role and that McCarthy will be playing a character named Kevin McSwain.

McCarthy is the third actor to board the series from writer Allan Cubitt. He joins main cast members Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan on the project. The Fall is a five part drama series which revolves around a PSNI (Police Service of Northern Ireland) investigation in Belfast into a string of Murders. The police investigation is headed by Detective Superintendent Gibson (Gillian Anderson), who is on secondment from London’s Metropolitan Police Service, and must hunt down serial killer Paul Spector (Jamie Dornan).

Filming is currently underway on the five part series in Belfast, Northern Ireland, with BBC Two eyeing a fall premiere.
