TVWise can exclusively reveal that Universal Channel has acquired the UK rights to King, the Canadian police drama. The series is set to make its UK debut on Thursday April 5th.

King stars Amy Price-Francis as Detective Jessica King, a sharp, strong-willed homicide detective who is handed the top job at Toronto’s Major Crimes Task Force after her predecessor suffers a very public breakdown. Each week she leads her team on a high-profile case while contending with the politics of the department and the mess of her own personal life.

Created by Greg Spottiswood and Bernard Zukerman, the series surrounds its lead with a strong ensemble, including Gabriel Hogan as King’s husband Danny and Alan Van Sprang as Derek Spears, the man she replaced at the head of the unit. It plays out as a character-driven procedural told from a distinctly female point of view.
