ABC’s upcoming series, The River, will receive it UK premiere on iTunes. The series, which is due to begin airing in the United States on February 7th, currently does not have a UK broadcaster, Disney has confirmed. The River will premiere on the UK iTunes store on February 8th, when the series first two episodes will be available for download; just 24 hours after their broadcast in the United States. Speaking of the show debuting in the UK on iTunes, executive producer Oren Peli said: “Right from the start, we’ve had a global audience in mind for The River the show preys on universal human fears, and follows a journey to an exotic, remote setting. I’m excited to be debuting the show on iTunes.”

The River has been described as a chilling thriller series and is definitely one of the most anticipated series of 2011 – 2012 TV season, with the series creating a fair amount of buzz since it was announced at ABC’s upfront presentation last May. The series picks up shortly after Dr Emmet Cole disappears while exploring the Amazon. It is then that Cole’s wife (Leslie Hope) and son (Joe Anderson) put together a small search party to search for the Doctor in the depths of the Amazon, without knowing if he is alive or even what happened to him. Only eight episode have been produced for the show’s first season.

A first look trailer is currently available for free on the iTunes store and a season pass can be pre-ordered at http://www.itunes.co.uk/tv/theriver for £9.99 (Standard Definition) or £12.99 (High Definition). Individual episodes will be available for purchase at £1.89 (Standard Definition) or £2.49 (High Definition) from February 8th.
