After two dramatic semi finals on Saturday, the stage is set for a showpiece final in London this afternoon.

It has been two decades since John Higgins last lifted the Masters trophy, when he edged Ronnie O’Sullivan 10-9 in a classic final at Wembley Arena.

Now 50, the Scot has rolled back the years to reach the final once again after producing a superb performance to overcome world number one Judd Trump in the semi finals.

Higgins’ route to the final has been anything but straightforward. He has beaten Barry Hawkins, Zhao Xintong and Trump, repeatedly showing his trademark resilience by coming from behind to win deciding frame thrillers. Those victories have secured him a place in his first Masters final since 2021 and made him the oldest finalist in Triple Crown history.

The achievement underlines a remarkable late career revival. After going without a ranking title between 2022 and 2024, Higgins rediscovered his best form last year with victories at the World Open and the Tour Championship. His start to 2026 has continued that upward trend, dispelling any suggestion that age is catching up with one of the sport’s all time greats.

Standing in his way is Kyren Wilson, who will be appearing in his third Masters final. Wilson is still searching for a first title at this event, having previously fallen short in the 2018 and 2025 finals.

Wilson has battled hard in his games and booked his place in the final with a narrow 6-5 victory over Wu Yize, producing his best snooker when it mattered most by compiling a decisive 116 break in the final frame.

The Warrior was not always at his fluent best, but his ability to deliver under pressure proved crucial once again.

Higgins has dominated the rivalry in recent years, winning 20 of their 27 meetings, with Wilson managing just seven victories.

This has the potential to be a classic.

Higgins’ comeback victories against Zhao and Trump have already become highlights of the tournament, while Wilson’s nerve in the closing stages of his semi final speaks to his growing maturity on the biggest stages.
