Exclusive: Merlin is returning to Syfy. Multiple sources are telling me that the cabler has renewed its licensing deal with FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME) for Merlin and acquired the US broadcast rights to the show’s fifth season. I’m also being told that the show’s 13 episode fifth season is set to premiere on Syfy in January 2013, alongside the third season of Canadian import Lost Girl.
Amazon’s streaming service LOVEFiLM has signed a content deal with the UK’s leading animation production company Aardman. Under the deal UK subscribers of LOVEFiLM will have instant access to Aardman’s vast library of programming which includes Wallace & Gromit, Morph, Shaun the Sheep, Timmy Time, Rex the Runt, Angry Kid and Creature Comforts.
Exclusive: I have just learned that Syfy UK has acquired the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to reality series Dream Machines and Face Off. The first season of Dream Machines will premiere on September 17th at 9pm, while the first season of Face Off is set to premiere in October.

ZDF Enterprises and Content Television have acquired the international distribution rights to BBC Two’s upcoming drama series The Fall. ZDF Enterprises will distribute the drama series in continental Europe, while Content Television will handle distribution in all other territories (excluding the UK). The series will be shopped to international buyers at MIPCOM 2012, which begins on October 8th in Cannes, France.
