EXCLUSIVE: ITV’s upcoming six episode comedy series Cabbage and Me (formerly known as Cabbage and Pat) has found another main cast member. I’ve learned that Marcus Garvey, whose previous credits include White Van Man and Broadchurch, has joined the comedy as a series regular. Exact character details are being kept under wraps, but one source tells me that Garvey plays one of “the kids who are less than impressed with Cabbage and Pat’s new zeal for life and wishes they would just grow old gracefully.”
Gold – the comedy channel owned and operated by UKTV – has given the green-light to a new three episode series titled The Two Ronnies Spectacle which will give insight into and feature rare footage of the comedy duo. The series is set to air on Gold later this year.
TLC has set a new UK premiere date for the first season of ABC’s drama series Mistresses. The 13 episode series will now bow on the channel on Thursday July 25th at 9pm. This comes after the Discovery Networks International owned channel previously announced a June 14th premiere, before subsequently pulling the series from their schedule only days later.
BBC One is getting back into business with Kay Mellor, the creator of the channel’s drama series The Syndicate which is currently being adapted for ABC in the United States under the title Lucky 7. Danny Cohen (in his former capacity as Controller of BBC One) and the BBC’s Controller of Drama Commissioning Ben Stephenson have given the green-light to a new six episode drama series titled In The Club about pregnancy, imminent birth, love and the change that new baby brings to a relationship.
ReelzChannel has closed a deal with Beta Film to acquire the exclusive US broadcast rights to Canadian cop drama King. The series, which aired two seasons on Showcase, is set to premiere on the cable channel on Friday July 5th at 10/9c.
John Hurt (Merlin) has joined cast of FX’s upcoming drama pilot The Strain as a series regular. Hurt has been cast as Professor Abraham Setrakian, a holocaust survivor who immigrated to the United States after World War II and now runs a pawn shop in Spanish Harlem. As the outbreak spreads, he may be the only one with answers – if anyone will listen. He joins previously announced cast members Corey Stoll, Kevin Durand, Mia Maestro, Richard Sammel, Lauren Lee Smith, Jonathan Hyde and Miguel Gomez.
Jenna-Louise Coleman (Doctor Who), Trevor Eve (Waking The Dead), Rebecca Front (The Thick Of It), James Fleet (The Vicar of Dibley), Penelope Keith (To The Manor Born), Joanna Scanlan (Stella), Tom Ward (Silent Witness), Eleanor Tomlinson (The White Queen) and James Norton (Doctor Who) have joined the cast of BBC One’s upcoming three-part drama Death Comes To Pemberley.
