Following the success of scripted mini-series Hatfields & McCoys and The Bible, History has given the green-light to a new mini-series titled Houdini. The four hour effort is set to enter production this fall and will star Academy Award winner Adrien Brody (The Pianist) as the ace magician and Kristen Connolly (House of Cards) as his wife Bess.
Lee Thompson Young, who has played the series regular role of Detective Barry Frost on TNT’s flagship series Rizzoli & Isles for the past four seasons, has died in an apparent suicide. He was 29. Young’s previous TV credits included roles on FlashForward, Smallville, The Good Guys and The Event.

BBC Two has sealed a deal with Arrow Films to acquire the UK broadcast rights to German public broadcaster ZDF’s three-part Second World War drama Generation War. The deal ensures that Generation War will be the first foreign language series to debut on BBC Two in the better part of twelve years; since the second season of The Kingdom in 2001.
BBC Three has ordered six documentaries for its returning Fresh strand, which was launched in 2008 and aims to give up-and-coming filmmakers the chance to tell stories that are relevant to younger audiences.

Hat Trick Productions is producing the comedy series with Angela Sinden serving as the producer and Helen Williams serving as the executive producer. Bob Servant Independent helmer Simon Hynd is attached to direct.
