Sky1 Picks Up Jed Mercurio’s Medical Drama Series ‘Critical’ With 13 Episode Order

As part of their pledge to invest £600 million on home-grown programming by 2014, Sky today announced that they had given the green-light to Line Of Duty creator Jed Mercurio’s drama series Critical, which has been in development since 2012. The series has received a 13 episode order and will air on Sky1. In addition, Sky also announced today that they had commissioned two new dramas for Sky Arts’ Playhouse Presents strand and confirmed that they will be co-producing Showtime’s upcoming drama series Penny Dreadful. All of which is part of a growing investment in drama, with Sky planning to commission 100 hours of drama over the next year.

UKTV Increases Original Content Spend To £110 Million

On the heels of the company releasing their financial results for the very first time, UKTV has announced that they are on track to invest £110 million on content this year. That marks a record for the company and represents an increase of £10 million on the budget of £100 million that was previously announced in January of this year.

Comedy Central Acquires UK Rights To CBS’ ‘The Millers’ & ‘We Are Men’

Comedy Central UK has closed a deal with CBS Studios International to acquire the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to CBS’ upcoming comedy series The Millers and We Are Men, TVWise has learned. As part of the same deal, which was brokered by Comedy Central UK’s Brad Wood and CBS Studios International’s Stephen Tague, Comedy Central has also renewed its licensing deals for both King of Queens and Rules of Engagement.
