E! is getting into the scripted game. The NBCUniversal owned and operated cable channel has handed a series order to drama project The Royals, which hails from Lionsgate Television, One Tree Hill‘s Mark Schwahn & executive producers Brian Robbins and Joe Davola. The series is set to enter production later this year on location in London, with E! eyeing a 2015 premiere.
Earlier this month, Sky Arts unveiled details of the new season of their Playhouse Presents strand, which features 8 one-off dramas and comedies. One such one-off was Space Age, a drama from Nick Moran and Ralf Little about ageing astronauts.
ITV is sticking with hit period drama Mr Selfridge. The commercial broadcaster today confirmed that they had renewed the series, which stars Jeremy Piven and is co-produced by PBS, for a third season of 10 episodes. Production on the show’s third season is slated to commence this April, once Piven wraps filming on the Entourage feature film.
Earlier today, the BBC confirmed their plans, subject to BBC Trust approval, to shutter BBC Three as a linear broadcast channel in Autumn 2015 and instead re-launch BBC Three as an online only service.
