Wednesday’s EFL Cup fixture will determine one of the four semi-finalists of the competition when Manchester City host Brentford at their home, the Etihad Stadium.

The match on Wednesday will present Manchester City with an opportunity to progress to the semi-finals of the EFL Cup for the first time since the 2020-21 season, the last season that saw the Citizens being crowned as the EFL Cup champions.

Manchester City are currently on a five-game winning streak in all competitions, in addition to an exceptional record while playing at home. The Etihad Stadium has been a witness to a Citizens loss in only one out of their last ten fixtures. Such good form will definitely provide the fans of Pep Guardiola’s side with great hopes of a strong showing.

Brentford have already beaten top teams, the likes of Bournemouth and Aston Villa, en route to this EFL Cup quarter-final. Their last outing in the competition resulted in a 5-0 thrashing of Grimsby Town. Wednesday’s fixture will be the fourth instance of the Bees playing at this stage of the competition in the last six seasons.

However, Keith Andrews will have several pointers to worry about before Wednesday’s fixture, the primary among which will be the four-game losing streak that Brentford are currently on while playing on the road. Another area of concern will be the fact that the Bees lost to the Citizens the last time the two clubs met in the Premier League in October.

As things stand, a comfortable victory and a spot in the semi-finals for Manchester City can be predicted as the possible outcome of the fixture.
