Premier League club Crystal Palace, who have travelled to Austria for the first time since the 2014-15 season as part of their pre season campaign, will be taking on German side FSV Mainz 05 at the Hans-Ludwig-Stadion, in the lap of the Austrian Alps.
Crystal Palace, last season, won their first major trophy in 119 years of existence, the 2024-25 F.A. Cup, beating European heavyweights Manchester City.
They will also be playing in continental competitions for the first time in their history, courtesy of the win.
The pre-season has also been quite successful for the Eagles; they have won back-to-back friendly fixtures against Millwall and Crawley Town: the first was a 1-0 win; the second was won by the Eagles by a margin of 3-0.
Borna Sosa, the solitary signing made by Crystal Palace until this point in the summer transfer market, caught the eyes of the audience with very good performances in these two fixtures.
FSV Mainz 05, who qualified for the 2025-26 UEFA Europa Conference League on the basis of their league position in the 2024-25 Bundesliga, will potentially be facing Crystal Palace in the competition.
Therefore, this match will present an opportunity for either side to test the other’s prowess and weaknesses before the main season commences.
Mainz, who have played in three pre season friendlies so far, have registered victories in all of them, and will be looking forward to maintain this momentum going into the new season with strong performances in the next matches of their campaign.
Up to now, FSV Mainz 05 have made four acquisitions in the summer transfer market: Benedict Hollerbach, Kasey Bos, Konstantin Schopp, and Sota Kawasaki; the latter has arrived on a loan deal.
