Crystal Palace face a decisive night in their UEFA Conference League campaign when they host KuPS on Thursday, knowing victory could secure automatic qualification for the knockout stages.

The Eagles head into matchday six sitting just one point outside the top eight in the league phase standings. A win would give Oliver Glasner’s side a strong chance of finishing in the top eight and avoiding a play off round, while a draw would still be enough to guarantee a top 24 finish and extend their European run beyond Christmas.

Palace are currently priced at 3/1 to win the competition outright and Glasner will be keen for his side to underline those credentials by claiming a fourth victory in six European matches.

Despite expected rotation, the Premier League club are fancied to have too much quality for their Finnish opponents.

KuPS arrive in London as reigning Finnish Veikkausliiga champions, having lifted the 2025 title, but they are currently out of season domestically.

Jarkko Wiss’ side have slipped to 25th in the Conference League table following a 1 0 defeat to Jagiellonia and a goalless draw with Lausanne, although their healthy goal difference means they remain firmly in contention for a top 24 finish.

A draw could yet be enough to see KuPS progress, while a win would guarantee their place in the knockout phase. However, preparations have been far from ideal, with their domestic campaign ending on November 9.

Since then, they have played two friendlies and two Conference League fixtures, recording three defeats and one draw.

Palace come into the match after a mixed run of results. Glasner’s side had put together a three match winning streak following a 3 0 away win over Shelbourne last Thursday, only to be brought back down to earth by a 3 0 home defeat to Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday.

While Palace are still considered among the favourites to lift the trophy, they will be eager to make life easier by sealing automatic qualification.

That would require their first home win in the competition since early November, with their last three matches at Selhurst Park in Europe yielding one draw and two defeats.

KuPS have proven difficult to break down away from home in this competition, failing to score but conceding just once in two road games so far.

Only four sides have scored fewer goals than their total of four in the league phase, suggesting Thursday’s contest may not be straightforward for the hosts.
