Southampton v Portsmouth on TV today

This is one of only ten Championship games ITV is simulcasting with Sky this season, which makes it a rare second-tier fixture that needs no subscription at all. ITVX and STV Player carry the free stream online, while Sky customers can watch on Sky Sports Main Event, its Ultra HDR feed or Sky Sports+, with Sky’s coverage starting at 11.00.

It kicks off at the same time as Motherwell v Celtic on Sky Sports Football. Pompey are back on Sky three days later at home to Sheffield United, and again at Wolves the following Tuesday.

Two points and six places separate the sides.

Southampton are 13th, though without the four-point deduction from the Spygate case they would be in the top four, and Tonda Eckert is free to stay on the touchline after avoiding a suspension this week. All four of their league games at St Mary’s have been won, among them a 4-1 against Bristol City, but they are still waiting for a first away win and lost 2-1 at Wrexham last time out.

John Mousinho’s side lost three of their first four games before steadying with a 2-0 home win over Cardiff, a goalless draw at Charlton and a 2-2 with Blackburn before the break. Both derbies last season ended level.

Cyle Larin and goalkeeper Daniel Peretz both trained on Friday after coming home early from international duty, and Caspar Jander is pushing for his first involvement of the season after a pre-season quad injury.

Portsmouth’s six returning internationals are all fit, but Mousinho is still without Benjamin Arthur, Connor Ogilvie, Luke Brooke-Smith, Franco Umeh and Thomas Waddingham. Conor Shaughnessy and Marko Milovanovic face late fitness checks, and Keshi Anderson is back in training after his own quad problem.
