Republic of Ireland v Austria live stream

Ireland needed a response after losing their opener to Kosovo with a single shot on target, and they got one. Three first-half goals saw off Israel at a neutral venue in Hungary, Troy Parrott scoring his seventh in five competitive games.

Home has been the comfortable part lately. Heimir Hallgrimsson’s side are unbeaten in eight at the Aviva, winning five and drawing three, with clean sheets in each of the last four and a 2-0 win over Portugal among them.

Austria are a different proposition.

Ralf Rangnick’s team reached the knockout phase at the World Cup and have won both Nations League games 3-1, seeing off 10-man Israel with two late goals in Linz before leading Kosovo 3-0 by the hour in Vienna. That has them top of League B Group 3.

They finished second two years ago and lost a promotion playoff to Serbia, so first place is the target this time. The rankings agree with them, Austria sitting 32 places above Ireland and holding six wins and three draws from the last 10 meetings.

Ireland’s one win in that run came back in November 2016. Four competitive games in 11 days means Hallgrimsson may rotate, with Jack Moylan, who has scored in four straight internationals, pushing to keep his place and a decision to be made over resting Parrott.

Jack Taylor, Mikey Johnston, Evan Ferguson, Jamie McGrath and Josh Cullen are all injured, while Seamus Coleman and captain Nathan Collins are unavailable. Bosun Lawal has been called into the squad having recovered from a hamstring strain.

Austria are without David Alaba, who was not selected, and Marcel Sabitzer, who is taking a break from international duty. Kevin Danso is suspended, Michael Gregoritsch is likely out with an ankle injury, and Paul Wanner and Nikolas Veratschnig have returned to their clubs with knocks.

Konrad Laimer should be fit again after an adductor problem.
