Seven wins from seven includes the Community Shield, and four from four in the league. Arsenal have only managed that last part three times before, in 2022-23, 2004-05 and the Invincibles season.
None of those three took a perfect 15 points from 15, and two of them finished the season without the title, so the omens are less emphatic than the record. Last weekend’s 2-0 at Sunderland was won the hard way, David Raya saving an Enzo Le Fee penalty before Bruno Guimaraes and Bukayo Saka settled it.
Tuesday brought a 4-2 win at Ipswich.
Max Dowman scored twice in that one, becoming the first male player to score a brace for Arsenal before turning 17. He is expected to drop back to the bench here.
The defence is held together with tape. William Saliba is out for several weeks yet, Piero Hincapie, Ben White and Cristhian Mosquera are all major doubts, and Jurrien Timber sat out the Ipswich tie as a precaution rather than through any fresh problem.
Brighton are fifth and have scored 13 league goals, at least three more than any other side in the division. Five of those came at Coventry last weekend, Lewis Dunk’s effort from 30 yards the pick of them.
Wednesday was arguably better. Two goals down at Old Trafford, Fabian Hurzeler’s side won 3-2, the first time in 50 years Manchester United have lost there having led by two.
Jaouen Hadjam picked up a knock in that game and is uncertain, while Georginio Rutter is back after an ankle problem. Evan Ferguson, Kaoru Mitoma, Yankuba Minteh, Mats Wieffer, Jack Hinshelwood, Stefanos Tzimas, Zadok Yohanna, Femi Azeez and Michael Svoboda all remain out.
Arsenal are unbeaten in the last seven meetings between the clubs and did the double last season.
