Birmingham are still unbeaten in the Championship and have built nicely after a heavy summer of recruitment.

Chris Davies opened with a goalless draw at Sheffield United and a 2-2 draw with Bristol City, before a first win of the season 2-1 at Wrexham on Friday night.

Phil Neumann scored both goals at the Racecourse Ground, a response Davies was particularly pleased with after his side had been hammered 6-1 by Brentford in the EFL Cup three days earlier.

Jhon Solis, Dael Fry, James Beadle, Luis Vazquez, Kristoffer Lund and Max Bird all arrived over the summer as the Blues look to improve on last season’s tenth-place finish.

Demarai Gray is a doubt after hurting his shoulder at Wrexham, with Patrick Roberts the likely replacement.

Southampton have hit their stride after a slow start. Beaten 2-1 at Watford on the opening weekend, Tonda Eckert’s side then saw off Stoke City 3-1 and produced their best display yet on Saturday.

Millwall were beaten 5-1 at St Mary’s, Cyle Larin scoring twice with Finn Azaz, Leo Scienza and Tom Fellows also on the scoresheet against a side who had been top of the table.

Their one blemish was a 4-1 EFL Cup defeat to West Ham in midweek.

Flynn Downes picked up a knock against Millwall, which could open the door for James Ward-Prowse to make a first start since returning to the club.

History is on the visitors’ side, with Birmingham without a win against Southampton in their last six meetings in all competitions.
