Newcastle United close out their summer schedule at St James’ Park, the second of two home friendlies in as many days after hosting Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.

Matthias Jaissle will be looking for a positive finish following a 3-1 defeat to Everton at Murrayfield in midweek, his side’s most recent outing.

It has been a summer of significant change on Tyneside, with Eddie Howe departing along with captain Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali after a difficult league campaign.

Fabian Schar and Lewis Miley are both nearing returns but are expected to miss out with groin and calf problems, while Valentino Livramento is also a doubt with a calf issue picked up earlier in pre-season.

Strasbourg arrive in the north east having lost all six of their pre-season friendlies so far, conceding 22 goals across those games including seven against Sporting Lisbon.

Hugo Oliveira’s side have also lost several key players this summer, with Valentin Barco and Emmanuel Emegha both joining sister club Chelsea, while striker Joaquin Panichelli remains out with an ACL injury.

Julio Enciso and Abdoul Ouattara are also unlikely to feature, with Ipswich Town reportedly having agreed a fee for the pair.

Newcastle begin their Premier League campaign at home to Liverpool next Sunday, while Strasbourg get their Ligue 1 season under way in the same week.
