Ecuador v Germany Live Stream Details
Ecuador v Germany will be shown live in the UK on BBC One, with coverage beginning at 8:30pm BST and kick off at 9:00pm BST. The match takes place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Ecuador arrived in North America in excellent form, having gone 19 matches unbeaten, but they have struggled badly to find their rhythm at this World Cup.
A 1-0 opening defeat to Ivory Coast was followed by a goalless draw against Curacao, despite La Tri being heavy favourites, and they now go into this final group game needing a win just to keep any hope of qualification alive.
History does not offer much encouragement either.
Ecuador have failed to win any of their last nine matches against European opposition, losing four and drawing five, while they are also yet to score a single goal at this tournament after more than 180 minutes of football.
Failure to score tonight would make Ecuador only the second CONMEBOL nation in history to go through an entire World Cup without finding the net. Sebastian Beccacece is likely to stick with the same squad but may switch formation, with captain Enner Valencia the most likely candidate to end that wait in front of goal.
Moises Caicedo, Gonzalo Plata and Pervis Estupinan all keep their places in what is expected to be an attacking minded lineup from the off.
Germany head to New Jersey having already wrapped up top spot in Group E, with wins over Curacao and Ivory Coast meaning Julian Nagelsmann’s side could afford to rotate significantly here.
The Germans have won 11 matches in a row across all competitions and a victory tonight would equal their longest winning run of 12, a record that dates back to the West Germany era of 1979 and 1980.
Nagelsmann is expected to make wholesale changes, with Oliver Baumann starting in goal in place of Manuel Neuer and several fringe players getting their first minutes of the tournament.
Deniz Undav, who came off the bench to score twice against Ivory Coast, is pushing to start from the beginning here alongside Nick Woltemade and Jamie Leweling, with more experienced starters like Musiala, Havertz and Sane likely to be rested ahead of the round of 32.
There is at least one encouraging sign for Ecuador.
Five of Germany’s last six matches have seen both teams score, so La Tri will be hoping a more open game suits them as they chase the win they desperately need.
