E4 Picks UK Rights Gotham Season 4

E4 has acquired the UK broadcast rights to Gotham season four, bringing the next chapter of the DC-inspired series to British audiences.

Gotham reimagines the origin stories of some of DC Comics’ most iconic characters, focusing on the rise of crime and corruption in Gotham City long before Batman emerges. The series centres on detective James Gordon and a young Bruce Wayne, charting the events that shape the city’s descent into chaos.

Season four marks a significant escalation in scope and ambition. Subtitled “No Man’s Land”, the new run explores Gotham as it fractures under criminal rule, with multiple villain factions competing for power. This storyline represents a tonal shift toward darker, more operatic storytelling.

The series stars Ben McKenzie as Jim Gordon and David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne. Their parallel journeys continue to anchor the show, with Gordon navigating moral compromise while Bruce moves closer to his destiny.

Season four also expands the roles of fan-favourite villains, including the Penguin, Riddler and Jerome Valeska. The series has been praised for its bold reinterpretations of classic antagonists, often blending comic book excess with psychological depth.

E4’s acquisition reflects the channel’s long-standing relationship with US genre drama. By picking up Gotham, E4 strengthens its offering to younger audiences drawn to superhero mythology, crime drama and stylised storytelling.

From a strategic standpoint, Gotham fits neatly into E4’s schedule alongside other imported series that perform strongly with 16-34 viewers. Its episodic structure and heightened tone make it well suited to both weekly broadcast and catch-up viewing.

Season four is widely regarded as one of Gotham’s most confident creative runs, embracing its comic book roots while delivering long-form narrative cohesion. The show leans into spectacle without abandoning character development.

E4 has confirmed that episodes will air weekly, with availability via All 4 to support on-demand viewing. This multi-platform approach reflects changing audience habits, particularly among younger viewers.

The acquisition also reinforces E4’s position within Channel 4’s wider portfolio as a destination for bold, youth-skewing drama that complements more traditional offerings on the main channel.

With Gotham season four joining its lineup, E4 continues to invest in recognisable genre brands with established fanbases, ensuring strong engagement and repeat viewing.

As the series moves deeper into its mythology, UK viewers will be able to follow Gotham’s descent in full, with season four representing a pivotal chapter in the show’s evolution.
