Cardiff City and Chelsea will kick horns against each other in a fixture that will determine one of the semi-finalists of the EFL Cup. The match will be played at the home of the former, Cardiff City Stadium.

Chelsea have been in somewhat shaky form this season- sometimes shining bright, sometimes not so much. Enzo Maresca’s side have only defeated Lincoln City and Wolverhampton Wanderers en route to this quarter final, and the Blues unexpectedly conceded in both fixtures.

The return of Cole Palmer in the previous league outing of Chelsea against Everton and the 2-0 win registered therein will surely provide the Blues’ faithful with hopes of a strong showing in the EFL Cup quarter final, a stage where they have registered victories in each of their last five such occasions.

Cardiff City on Tuesday will have the opportunity of reaching the semi-finals of the EFL Cup for the first time since the 2011-12 season, one which saw them end the campaign as runners up.

This season has also seen the Bluebirds exhibit good performances; gaffer Barry Murphy has led his men to beat teams the likes of Swindon Town, Cheltenham Town, Burnley and Wrexham.

However, the Bluebirds have a shambolic record while playing against the Blues; their last victory against Chelsea came in the same competition all the way back in 1986. Chelsea have prevailed in all subsequent meetings between the two sides.

As things stand, a comfortable victory for Chelsea can be predicted as the possible outcome of Tuesday’s EFL Cup quarter-final fixture.
