The match will be Augsburg’s final game of their summer campaign. But before that, they will play a game against Italian side Pisa on Friday, 8 August 2025.

For Sunderland this will be the penultimate fixture, and they will wrap up their campaign with a fixture against Spanish outfit Rayo Vallecano.

Under new manager Sandro Wagner, Augsburg have had a solid campaign, out of the seven fixtures that they have participated in, the Fuggerstädter have won in five, and have registered draws in two, thus remaining unbeaten till now.

Finishing 12th on the Bundesliga charts in the 2024-25 season, and having missed out on European football, Augsburg will definitely look to improve upon their performances before the new season starts.

Sunderland, under manager Regis Le Bris, have had a decent time of it that stands in stark contrast to that of Augsburg.

The Black Cats have suffered four losses on the trot and a draw. Their solitary win of the summer came against sixth tier club South Shields.

An immediate change in fortunes is the need of the hour if Sunderland want to enter the 2025-26 Premier League season on a positive note, given the recent abysmal record of teams playing in the top flight after being promoted from the Championship.

Sunderland would surely not want to suffer the fate of Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton. The match against Augsburg will, thus, be a test of mettle for Regis Le Bris.
