Channel 5 has added three new dramas to its growing slate, with a women’s prison drama, a crime thriller and a feature-length murder mystery all commissioned for broadcast in 2019.
The prison drama, carrying the working title Clink, is set in a women’s prison and will air on the broadcaster’s digital channel 5Star. It is produced by LA Productions, the company behind the BBC’s Sean Bean drama Broken.
The second commission, 15 Days, is a four-part crime thriller and an English-language remake of the Welsh-language S4C series 35 Diwrnod. The story opens with a brutal murder before rewinding through the preceding fifteen days to reveal how and why it happened. It is produced by Boom and part-funded by ITV Studios Global Entertainment and the Welsh government.
Channel 5 has also ordered a feature-length drama based on a real-life murder case from the 1920s, to be made by Darlow Smithson Productions, following the broadcaster’s earlier Agatha Christie adaptation Crooked House. The new dramas were commissioned by Channel 5 commissioner Seb Cardwell.
