BBC One has set a premiere date for War & Peace, its lavish new adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s novel, with the six-part drama beginning on Sunday January 3rd at 9pm.
Dramatised by Andrew Davies and directed by Tom Harper, the series is set against the Napoleonic Wars and follows the fortunes of several aristocratic Russian families from 1805 onwards. Paul Dano stars as the searching, kind-hearted Pierre Bezukhov, with Lily James as Natasha Rostova and James Norton as Prince Andrei Bolkonsky.
Filmed on location in Russia, Latvia and Lithuania, the production surrounds its young leads with a deep ensemble that includes Jim Broadbent, Gillian Anderson, Stephen Rea, Greta Scacchi, Tuppence Middleton and Jessie Buckley.
