BBC One has set a premiere date for the third series of Death in Paradise, with the Caribbean-set crime drama returning on Tuesday January 14th at 9pm.
The new run opens with a genuine shock: Ben Miller’s DI Richard Poole, the prickly Englishman at the heart of the first two series, is murdered in the opening episode, killed with an ice pick at a university reunion on Saint Marie. It falls to a new detective, the clumsy but sharp DI Humphrey Goodman, played by Kris Marshall, to fly in from London and solve the death of his own predecessor.
Having cracked the case, Goodman is persuaded to stay on and take over the island beat. The familiar team remains in place around him, with Sara Martins as DS Camille Bordey, Danny John-Jules as Officer Dwayne Myers and Don Warrington as Commissioner Selwyn Patterson.
