Cartoon Network has renewed The Amazing World of Gumball for two more seasons, ordering a fourth and fifth run that brings its total to five seasons. The two new seasons were commissioned as 40 half-hour blocks.
Created by Ben Bocquelet and directed by Mic Graves, Gumball was the first full-length series to come out of Cartoon Network’s development studio in Europe. It follows the misadventures of Gumball Watterson, a 12-year-old blue cat, and his adopted goldfish brother Darwin, along with the rest of the Watterson family, in the fictional town of Elmore.
The show is known for its hybrid look, mixing 2D and 3D animation with live-action backgrounds, and for the meta-humour that runs through it. A winner of BAFTA, Annie and International Emmy awards, it has been a strong performer at home and abroad, with its third season due to begin shortly.
