DMAX is going free-to-air in the UK later this month, and it is bringing the animated comedy Archer with it. From January 16th the Discovery channel switches to a free service, taking over the Freeview and Freesat slots previously held by the Travel Channel while staying on Sky and Virgin.

The relaunch repositions DMAX as a male-skewing entertainment channel built around survival, motoring, extreme lives and comedy, joining Discovery’s other free-to-air channels Quest, Quest Red and Food Network. Its run of premieres includes the survival series Naked and Afraid, the food challenge show Man Vs Food and the Alaska-set Life Below Zero, alongside Archer.

Created by Adam Reed for FX, Archer first aired in the United States in 2009. It follows Sterling Archer, a vain and reckless secret agent, and the dysfunctional staff of the spy agency run by his domineering mother. H. Jon Benjamin voices Archer, with Jessica Walter as his mother Malory and Aisha Tyler as fellow agent Lana Kane.
