StarzPlay Acquires UK Rights To J.K. Simmons Thriller 'Counterpart' – TVWise

J.K. Simmons’ (The Closer) newest TV drama is coming to the UK.
StarzPlay – which is available exclusively in the UK on Amazon Prime via Amazon Channels – has acquired Counterpart from international distributor Sony Pictures Television. The show’s first season will be available to stream for StarzPlay subscribers from Friday September 28th.
This marks the second major deal between Sony and StarzPlay since the service launch on Amazon Prime Video UK earlier this year. Back in July, the two companies also agreed a deal for AT&T’s Audience network’s Stephen King adaptation Mr. Mercedes.
Counterpart is about a mysterious world hidden beneath the surface of our everyday existence. Howard Silk (J.K. Simmons) is a lowly cog in the bureaucratic machinery of a Berlin-based United Nations spy agency. When Howard discovers that his organization safeguards the secret of a crossing into a parallel dimension, he is thrust into a shadow world of intrigue, danger, and double cross… where the only man he can trust is his near-identical counterpart from this parallel world.
The drama series, which was picked up at Starz with a two-season/twenty episode order, was created by Justin Marks and is set up at Media Rights Capital, Gilbert Films, and Anonymous Content. In addition to Simmons, the cast also includes Olivia Williams (The Sixth Sense), Harry Lloyd (The Theory Of Everything), Nicholas Pinnock (Captain America: The First Avenger), Nazanin Boniadi (Homeland), Sara Serraiocco (Worldly Girl) and Ulrich Thomsen (The Blacklist). Justin Marks, Amy Berg, Gary Gilbert, Jordan Horowitz, Morten Tyldum, Keith Redmon and Bard Dorros.
