The second season of Canadian drama Cardinal will receive its UK premiere on BBC Four on Saturday August 4th at 9pm with a double-bill, it has been announced.
Cardinal is set in the town of Algonquin Bay in Northern Canada and follows detectives John Cardinal and Lise Delorme as they investigate major crimes and unearth the darker side of their picturesque community. The drama series, which is based on the series of Cardinal novels by Giles Blunt, is produced by Sienna Films and eOne in association with Bell Media’s CTV and stars Billy Campbell, Karine Vanasse, Deborah Hay, Glen Gould, Kristen Thomson, David Richmond Peck, Alanna Bale, Bruce Ramsay, Alex Paxton-Beesley, Jonathan Keltz, Kevin Hanchard and Kris Holden-Ried.
The show’s six episode second season picks up several months after the events of season one. It’s early summer in Algonquin Bay and the blackflies aren’t the only ones out for blood. Detectives John Cardinal (Campbell) and Lise Delorme (Vanasse) find themselves with a strange case on their hands involving a young woman with a gunshot wound to the head. The investigation quickly takes a turn as Cardinal and Delorme uncover a series of disturbing, ritualistic killings that may be connected to their young victim. Cardinal must work to identify the young woman before her attacker strikes again. CTV has already renewed the series for a third season.
