NBC is bringing back two of the three series from Dick Wolf’s Chicago franchise for the 2016-2017 season
At a press event held in Chicago yesterday on the sets of the franchise, NBC topper Robert Greenblatt announced that the network had renewed both Chicago Fire and Chicago PD. Chicago Fire will be back for its fifth season, while Chicago PD will return for a fourth season.
Both series have been instrumental in NBC’s ratings successes over the past few years and rank amongst the network’s highest rated shows; making these early renewals a no brainer. In their most recent outings, Chicago Fire averaged 8.1 million viewers/1.8 demo rating; while Chicago PD pulled in 6.5 million viewers/1.4 demo rating. The newest franchise entry, Chicago Med, premieres next week.
NBC has been busy in the past 24 hours. In addition to these two renewals, the network has also handed out an early 22 episode second season renewal to breakout hit series Blindspot, starring Jaimie Alexander and Sullivan Stapleton; and ordered an additional three episodes for the second season of their Debra Messing fronted procedural The Mysteries Of Laura.
