Sony Entertainment Television is adding another exclusive series to their line up.
I’ve learned that SET, the UK entertainment channel which is owned and operated by Sony Pictures Television, has closed a deal with Content Television & Digital to acquire the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to Serangoon Road – the 10 episode drama which was HBO Asia’s first original series and a co-production with Australian public broadcaster ABC. The show’s first season is set to premiere on SET on Wednesday April 9th at 9pm.
Serangoon Road is set in 1960s Singapore, which is described as a thrilling melting pot of political and colonial tension, criminal gangs, and roving CIA agents. The drama picks up when Patricia Cheng’s husband, who runs the Cheng Detective Agency, is mysteriously murdered while working a case. With his sudden death, she enlists the services of enigmatic Australian Sam Callaghan to help her run the Cheng Detective Agency. But it soon becomes clear that his investigation could have major international implications. Serangood Road features an international cast which includes, amongst others, Don Hany, Joan Chen, Alaric Tay, Michael Dorman, Pamelyn Chee and Chin Han.
This the latest first run scripted buy for Sony Entertainment Television, whose prominence in the area of exclusive content has been increasing over the past two years. The SPT backed broadcaster is also the exclusive UK home to NBC’s cult comedy Community and TV Land’s Hot In Cleveland, while previous exclusive series have included the Jada Pinkett Smith fronted TNT drama Hawthorne. The channel also airs repeats of a number of other series including Hustle, The Tudors and Life On Mars.
