No Deal On The Horizon In UKTV & Virgin Media Carriage Dispute

A resolution to the carriage dispute which saw all ten of UKTV's channel brands removed from the Virgin Media platform on July 22nd does not appear to be on the horizon. After multiple volleys on social media from both sides over the past week or so, the two companies had re-engaged in talks in hopes of finding a solution. But now UKTV claims that, when a deal was in sight, Virgin Media backed out of a verbal agreement. TVWise has reached out to Virgin Media for comment.

UKTV Goes Dark On Virgin Media; All Ten Channels Replaced Due To Carriage Dispute

It's happened. The carriage dispute between UKTV and Virgin Media has reached a head. There was no last minute deal between the two companies and as a result UKTV has gone dark on the platform. Their ten channels - including Alibi, Dave and W - have already been replaced by such channels as Paramount Network, YourTV and Premier Sports. There are two key points preventing a deal. Firstly, Virgin Media wants VOD rights to BBC shows that air on a repeat window on UKTV's channels - something UKTV is unable to do as those rights are controlled not by them but by BBC Studios. The other issue is that, alongside that, Virgin is asking for a cut in the fees they pay UKTV for their suite of channels.

Paramount Network To Launch On Virgin Media In HD

Paramount Network is coming to Virgin Media. The new channel from Viacom International Media Networks is now set to launch on the platform tomorrow (Saturday July 21st) on Channel 187. Unlike the other platforms, Paramount Network will be launching on Virgin Media in HD. Paramount Network caters to adults of all ages with strong appeal to Generation X, Millennials and fans of cinematic storytelling. They hold linear rights to Designated Survivor and Suits, and exclusive UK rights to the short-lived Fox comedy The Mick. Paramount has also recently concluded deals to acquire Marvel's Agent Carter and FX's The Strain.

UKTV Set To Go Dark On Virgin Media Due To Carriage Dispute

Messy negotiations over a new carriage deal between UKTV and Virgin Media have spilled out into the open as the dispute nears a rapidly approaching deadline and may result in UKTV's 10 channels going dark on the platform. The nature of the dispute is not exactly clear, with both sides citing different reasons for a breakdown in talks. Virgin Media has made the case that a key sticking point for them is VOD rights to BBC shows that air on a repeat window on UKTV's channels. UKTV, however, says that they are unable to come to terms as Virgin Media is demanding a "significant cut" in fees, despite the fact that they account for more than 25% of viewing to pay entertainment channels in Virgin’s basic pay pack.

VIMN & Virgin Media Team Together To Bring Nick Play VOD App To UK
