UKTV has recorded a surge in viewership from younger people during the lockdown. The network has seen a 55% increase in the 16-34 demo when compared to the pre-lockdown period. Interestingly, these viewers have been consuming classic TV titles such as The Bill, Only Fools & Horses, Gavin & Stacey and The Vicar Of Dibley. UKTV originals Red Dwarf: The Promised Land, Hypothetical and Meet The Richardsons also proved to be popular.

2019 is shaping up to be a good year for UKTV. Year-to-date, the broadcaster's SOCI (share of commercial impacts) has hit 9.53%, up 3% compared to 2018. SOCI for the 16-34 demo also is showing strong growth, up 6% year-on-year to 6.74%. A key driving force behind the SOCI growth was the performance of UKTV's original series. Dave's Hypothetical, featuring James Acaster and Josh Widdicombe, launched with 1.2 million viewers - making it UKTV's top rated show of 2019.

UKTV's originals push is paying off. Last year, original commissions were amongst the top-rated programmes on six of the channels (Dave, W, Gold, Drama, Yesterday and Really) across the network and also drove growth for VOD service UKTV Play.

UKTV has inked a "landmark" deal with Virgin Media which gives the cable company more than 10, 000 hours of UKTV content across original series and US & UK acquisitions, including a wealth of programmes from the BBC, ITV and Channel 4.

Fresh off of launching the first ever marketing campaign for UKTV Play, UKTV has revamped the user interface of their VOD hub. UKTV Play will now feature a better organised homepage, higher-quality programme images and the introduction of easy-to-view genre listings.

UKTV is further expanding the reach of UKTV Play, by launching the on-demand app on Amazon Fire TV and the Fire TV Stick, TVWise has learned. UKTV Play is now available as a free app in the Apps section of Amazon Fire.
