Along with revealing that they are developing a Gateway series with Battlestar Galactica's David Eick, Syfy used their time at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour to announce premiere dates for space opera The Expanse and miniseries Childhood's End. 
Syfy is teaming with Battlestar Galactica and Caprica executive producer David Eick to develop a TV series based on Frederik Pohl’s Hugo and Nebula Award-winning novel Gateway, which tells the story of humanity’s encounter with a mysterious, ancient alien civilization. 
In what is her first major television role following stints on CSI: Miami and The Comedians, Olivia Taylor Dudley has joined the cast of Syfy's 13 episode Lev Grossman adaptation The Magicians as a series regular, TVWise has learned. She will play Alice, an intensely shy and delicately lovely young woman. Born of a magical but neglectful family, Alice is an outcast among her fellow students at Brakebills, but nonetheless emerges as the most brilliant magical practitioner in her class. 
Nathan Phillips (Wolf Creek), Britne Oldford (American Horror Story) and Julian McMahon (Nip/Tuck) have been set as the lead in Hunters, Syfy's 13 episode alien counter-terrorism drama from The Walking Dead executive producer Gale Anne Hurd. Syfy is bringing the grindhouse genre to television. The NBCU owned cable network has given the green-light to Blood Drive, which is described as "a high-octane over-the-top scripted series in the classic grindhouse movie tradition". 13 episodes have been ordered for the show's first season.
