StarzPlay Inks Sony Deal For Audience’s Stephen King Adaptation ‘Mr. Mercedes’, Season 2 Premiere Set For August 23rd
StarzPlay is adding another first run acquisition to their slate. The channel - which is available exclusively in the UK on Amazon Prime via Amazon Channels - has picked up UK rights to Audience network's Stephen King adaptation Mr. Mercedes after striking a deal with international distributor Sony Pictures Television. The show's first season is now available to StarzPlay subscribers as of today. Season two will premiere on Thursday August 23rd, less than 24 hours behind the U.S. broadcast on Audience. 


After piloting the project (under its former titled Ball Street), Showtime has picked up 1980s Wall Street comedy Black Monday - starring Don Cheadle, Andrew Rannells and Regina Hall - to series with a ten episode order. Owing to the fact that Black Monday is set up as a co-pro with Sony Pictures Television, it is not immediately clear if it will be covered by Showtime's output deal with Sky or if SPT will be distributing it in the UK.
Alibi is adding a trio of scripted dramas to their slate. The UKTV owned and operated channel has agreed a bumper deal with international distributor Sony Pictures Television for UK rights to AXN's Jerry O'Connell fronted drama series Carter, and repeat rights to both The Guardian and Unforgettable.
Medical drama series The Good Doctor - which airs on this side of the pond on Sky Living - has been renewed for a second season by U.S. broadcaster ABC. No word on the size of the episode order for season two, which will air as part of the 2018-2019 season.
AMC Global – the AMC branded channel here in the UK, which is available exclusively to BT TV customers – has secured the exclusive UK broadcast rights to Crackle's Snatch TV adaptation, starring Harry Potter's Rupert Grint, after striking a deal with international distributor Sony Pictures Television.
