Showtime Renews Jim Carrey Comedy ‘Kidding’ For Second Season
Showtime has renewed their Jim Carrey comedy Kidding for a second season. The premium cable network has ordered ten episodes for the show's sophomore run, which is expected to air in 2019. Under the terms of the output deal between Showtime and Sky, Sky Atlantic holds the exclusive UK rights to Kidding. A firm date has not yet been set, but word is that it is being eyed for a November premiere.
After piloting the project (under its former titled Ball Street), Showtime has picked up 1980s Wall Street comedy Black Monday - starring Don Cheadle, Andrew Rannells and Regina Hall - to series with a ten episode order. Owing to the fact that Black Monday is set up as a co-pro with Sony Pictures Television, it is not immediately clear if it will be covered by Showtime's output deal with Sky or if SPT will be distributing it in the UK.
Weeds star Justin Kirk has been tapped for a recurring role in Showtime's half-hour comedy series Kidding, starring Jim Carrey, Catherine Keener, Frank Langella and Judy Greer. Kirk will play Peter, the new boyfriend of Jill (Greer) who is Jeff’s (Carrey) estranged wife.
Showtime's critically acclaimed drama series Shameless is one of the premium cable network's few returning series which has yet to be renewed (or cancelled) and it appears a on-going pay-dispute may be the cause.
The curtain is coming down on Roadies. Showtime has cancelled the hour-long music themed comedy series, from J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot production banner, after a single ten episode season, TVWise has confirmed.
Prison Break alum Robert Knepper has been tapped for a recurring role on the sixth season of Showtime's CIA drama Homeland. Knepper will play General Jamie McClendon, the Department of Defense representative who is tasked with briefing the president-elect.
Showtime has officially pulled the trigger on a two-season pick-up for Homeland and renewed the CIA drama for a seventh and eighth season, TVWise has learned. Liev Schreiber fronted LA fixer drama Ray Donovan has also been renewed for a fifth season.
