DRG Secures First Format Deal For Social Experiment ‘No More Boys And Girls’
BBC Two's No More Boys And Girls is set to be adapted for the German market after international distributor DRG secured the first format deal for the social experiment with ZDF. The format has also been optioned in the Netherlands and Spain. The German version, which will air on ZDF Neo, is a two-part miniseries and will be produced by Bavaria Entertainment GmbH. Ina Eck will serve as the executive producer. The format deal was struck by DRG's Senior Vice-President of Sales Adam Barth.
International distributor DRG has hired for All3Media International executive Lucy Roberts to serve as their Senior Sales Manager for Central & Eastern Europe and French Speaking Territories. At All3Media, Lucy Roberts served as Format Sales Manager for EMEA North. Prior to that she held key sales posts at both Keshe International and BBC Worldwide (now know as BBC Studios). She started her career in the industry at ITV Studios Global Entertainment. Roberts takes up post at DRG in London this week and will report to the company's Executive Vice-President of Sales Elin Thomas. She will also work closely with Adam Barth, whose recent promotion to Senior Vice-President for EMEA has seen an extension of his role and territory remit.
The recent wave of royal events (two weddings and the birth of Prince Louis) has been good for business for DRG. On the back of that, the international distributor has racked up a slew of sales of royal themed programming to various international broadcasters.
The Cry is crossing the pond. International distributor DRG has pre-sold The Cry, BBC One's upcoming Scotland-set four-part drama starring Jenna Coleman (Victoria) and Ewen Leslie (Top Of The Lake), to AMC Networks' streaming service Sundance Now in the United States.
In an interesting move, DRG has commissioned Manson's Bloodline, a four-episode Charles Manson series from US production company MY Entertainment. Manson's Bloodline tells the story of Charles Manson’s grandson, Jason Freeman, and his coming to terms with his notorious grandfather. MY Entertainment obtained extraordinary access and the series features previously unheard telephone calls that Manson had with Jason from prison; Jason’s battle for his grandfather’s body following his death in November 2017; and exclusive footage of Manson’s funeral from earlier this year.
