Canadian period drama Murdoch Mysteries - which is co-produced by UKTV and airs on their Alibi channel - has been renewed for a twelfth season. Canadian public broadcaster CBC has commissioned 18 hour-long episodes. There will be no Christmas special for season twelve.

The show's tenth season opens with a two-part episode set in the world of Toronto debutantes, whose coming out is interrupted by the 1904 Great Fire of Toronto, one of the seminal events in the city's history. 
The 2016 Murdoch Mysteries Christmas special will receive its UK premiere on UKTV's Alibi channel on Tuesday December 20th at 10pm, it has been announced.
