Fox Buys Comedy ‘Front Man’ From Emily Kapnek & Elizabeth Banks

Fox is continuing the trend of turning feature films into TV series. The network has handed out a put pilot commitment to Behind Enemy Lines, an hour-long TV project based on the 2001 feature film starring Gene Hackman and Owen Wilson (pictured). The original film hailed from 20th Century Fox and, as such, the studio's TV division 20th Century Fox Television will produce the TV adaptation.
Fox has found a new showrunner for the Rob Lowe vehicle The Grinder. Ben Wexler has come on-board the comedy series as executive producer/showrunner after inking an overall deal with series producer 20th Century Fox Television. Under the pact, Wexler will take the reins on The Grinder and develop other projects for the studio.
In what is his first series regular role since the short-lived CBS legal dramedy The Defenders, Jim Belushi has joined the cast of Fox's hour-long drama pilot Urban Cowboy, which is based on the John Travolta fronted 1980s feature film of the same name. He will play Marshall, a spirited long haul truck driver turned honky tonk bar owner, who is as much of a Houston institution as is his bar Gilley’s.
Homeland and 24 executive producer Howard Gordon is teaming with Bones scribe Nkechi Okoro Carroll for a new medical drama which has landed at Fox with a script commitment with significant penalty attached
Sense8 star Alfonso Herrera has been set as the male lead in Fox's hour-long drama pilot Urban Cowboy, a reboot of the 1980s John Travolta feature film of the same name which hails from Paramount Television, 20th Century Fox Television and Craig Brewer.
Fox is bringing back another well known X-Files alum for the revival. Annabeth Gish (The Bridge, Sons Of Anarchy) has signed on to reprise her role as FBI Special Agent Monica Reyes in the limited event series. She will appear in one episode towards the end of the six episode run.
During the Fox Executive Panel at the TCAs, network toppers Dana Walden & Gary Newman made a flurry of programming announcements including that they are moving forward with a 10 episode Prison Break revival, development is underway on a 24 reboot without Sutherland as Jack Bauer, Bones & Sleepy Hollow will crossover this Fall and more.
