NBC is extending the run of Chicago Med. The newest entry in Dick Wolf's Chicago franchise has received an order for five additional episodes from the network, TVWise has learned. The first season of Chicago Med will now consist of eighteen episodes.

The latest Chicago Fire spin-off has found a UK home. Universal Channel has acquired the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to Chicago Med after striking a deal with international distributor NBCUniversal International Distribution, TVWise has learned. The show's 13 episode first season will premiere on Universal Channel in 2016.

NBC is adding to the cast of Chicago Med. The Americans and Public Morals alum Peter Mark Kendall has been tapped for a recurring role in the latest Chicago Fire spin-off, which is set to premiere on Tuesday November 17th at 9/8c.

Alias star Carl Lumbly is checking into Chicago Med. The veteran character actor, who played Sydney Bristow's (Jennifer Garner) partner Marcus Dixon on all five seasons of Alias, has landed a recurring role on the Chicago Fire spin-off, TVWise has learned. He will play Bert Goodwin, the husband of Gaffney Chicago Medical Center administrator Sharon (S. Epatha Merkerson).

Rachel DiPillo (Jane The Virgin) and Torrey DeVitto (The Vampire Diaries) have joined the cast of NBC's latest Chicago Fire spin-off Chicago Med as series regulars, TVWise has learned. DiPillo, who has also enjoyed stints on such shows as NCIS, Mad Men and Emily Owens, M.D., will play Dr. Sarah Reese, an emergency room intern who’s fresh out of medical school. While DeVitto has been cast as Dr. Lilly Manning, a pregnant ER physician. Her previous television credits include Pretty Little Liars, Army Wives, One Tree Hill and Beautiful People.

NBC's Chicago Med is losing one of its main cast members. Laurie Holden, whose long list of credits include The Walking Dead and Major Crimes, is exiting the Chicago Fire spin-off due to "family reasons". Her departure comes several months before the series is set to debut this November. She was one of the few members of the main cast who appeared in the back-door pilot, which aired as an episode of Chicago Fire's third season.
