Hulu Acquires Exclusive SVOD Rights To ‘Roots’
Hulu has taken the exclusive SVOD rights to the recent Roots reboot after striking a wide-ranging deal with A+E Networks, the two companies announced on Tuesday. Roots will be available to stream on Hulu later this year.
Another executive shake-up is underway at A+E Networks. Dirk Hoogstra, who has been serving as the General Manager of History and H2 since 2013, is exiting his post effective immediately and will be replaced by current FYI and LMN President Jana Bennett, who has been named President and General Manager of History.
A+E Networks has found the lead for their Roots reboot. British actor Malachi Kirby has nabbed the lead role as Kunta Kinte - a role that was played by Star Trek: The Next Generation and Perception star LeVar Burton in the original 1970s miniseries.
A+E Networks has promoted long-time marketing and communications executive Anna Priest to the position of Vice-President of Global Brands. In her new role, Priest will be responsible for setting the company’s 3-5 year global brand strategies and marketing plans. She will also review new ways to develop and expand the growth and impact of A+E Networks and will champion the company’s global corporate social responsibility programmes. As VP of Global Brands, she will report to Amanda Hill, A+E Networks' Chief Creative Officer, International.
BBC One has set the principal cast for their newest Agatha Christie series. Aidan Turner (Poldark), Miranda Richardson (Mapp & Lucia), Charles Dance (Game Of Thrones) and more have signed on for starring roles in Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None. Additionally, A+E Networks has boarded the series as a co-producer and will air And Then There Were None on Lifetime in the United States in 2016.
