BBC Four Picks Up Scandinavian Series Lilyhammer

BBC Four has acquired the rights to a new Scandinavian series, Lilyhammer. The series will air on Netflix in the United States later today and has already premiered on NRK in Norway and follows Frank “The Fixer” Tagliano, a New York mobster who turns state’s evidence against his former crime family and enters the witness protection programme. After testifying against his boss, Frank makes an unusual request: that he be set up with his new life and identity in the Norwegian town of Lillehammer. The first season of the show runs eight episodes and stars Steven Van Zandt (The Sopranos), Marian Saastad Ottesen, Trond Fausa Aurvåg, Kyrre Hellum, Sven Nordin, Anne Krigsvoll and Steinar Sagen.

FX Renews Sons Of Anarchy For Season Six

The often candid creator of FX’s hit series Sons Of Anarchy, Kurt Sutter, has revealed on his twitter account that he has signed a three year overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television and FX Productions, which will see him develop new series for both broadcast and cable. In the tweet Sutter said: “Closed my deal for 3 more years on SOA. no headlines, no pushed schedule… thank you FX and 20th for your generosity.” That tweet has since been deleted. The deal included a sixth season renewal for his series Sons Of Anarchy with a strong possibility for a seventh season, which Sutter has indicated would be the show’s final season. This comes mere months after FX renewed the biker series for a fifth season which is expected to air in the fall.

NBC Pulls The Firm From Thursday Nights, Schedules New Series Awake

NBC has pulled the television adaptation of John Grisham’s novel The Firm from it’s Thursday night 10pm time-slot, effective immediately. The series will still air on the peacock network, however, with all new episodes of the series airing on Saturday nights at 9/8c as of February 11th. NBC’s decision to pull the series comes after the latest episode posted series low numbers. The series premiered to a mediocre 6.32 million viewers and a 1.4 rating and has since continued to slide in the ratings with the latest episode scoring a mere 2.98 million viewers and a 0.8 rating.

BBC Two Orders New Drama Series Starring Gillian Anderson

Exclusive: BBC Two has ordered The Fall, a new five episode drama series from writer Allan Cubitt (Murphy’s Law, Prime Suspect). The series is being produced by Artists Studio and revolves around a PSNI (Police Service of Northern Ireland) investigation in Belfast into a string of Murders. Gillian Anderson (The X-Files, Bleak House) has been cast in the lead role of Detective Superintendent Gibson, who arrives at the Belfast police station to review the murder investigation or more specifically why no progress has been made on the case. Casting is currently underway for the remaining roles with production slated to begin next month on location in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The Fall is expected to air on BBC Two later on in the year.
