CBS has opted not to give a back nine order to freshman comedy series Partners and has instead pulled the series from the schedule, effective immediately. Partners becomes the second new show to be cancelled by the network this season, following on from the cancellation of freshman drama Made In Jersey last month.
EXCLUSIVE: I’ve learned that accomplished director James Hawes has been tapped to helm Channel 4’s long gestating mini-series The Mill. My sources tell me that Hawes has been attached to the project since Spring 2012. Hawes has recently come off of helming the second season of Sky1’s dramedy series Mad Dogs and just recently signed on to direct the (as yet untitled) BBC/Science Channel docu-drama about the Challenger disaster, which is currently being shot on location in South Africa.
FX has picked up a third installment of its hit anthology series American Horror Story. The network has ordered 13 episodes for what is ostensibly the show’s third season. As was the case last year, the title for season 3 has not yet been revealed and many of the actors will return in different roles next year, including series star Jessica Lange.
The 12 episode first season of MTV’s adaptation of The Inbetweeners (which was acquired by E4 back in September) will receive its UK premiere on E4 on Wednesday December 5th at 10pm with a double-bill, it has been announced.
Goodbye FX UK hello Fox. Fox International Channels has announced that as of January 11th 2013 FX UK will be re-branding as FOX. The move to re-brand as FOX comes after record breaking audience figures earlier in 2012 and marks a “natural evolution” of the brand in becoming a bigger TV destination dedicated to excellence in entertainment. Under the new name, FOX will continue to provide UK pay-TV viewers with exceptional, bold and edgy first-run series but also broaden its schedule into other genres to reflect an ever-expanding audience.
Update, Thursday, 5:04pm: I have just heard back from representatives of Cinemax and I am now being told that, while moving the series forward in its current format is not possible due to the nature of the co-production agreement with the BBC, the network is looking to move forward with the story of Sam Hunter (which had been conceived of with a 5 year arc) in some manner. In a statement, Kary Antholis, President, HBO Miniseries and Cinemax Programming, said: “We are making plans with creator and executive producer Frank Spotnitz and star Melissa George to present a new chapter in the Sam Hunter mythology. We are very pleased with what Hunted has done for Cinemax’s brand and are very excited about what lies ahead.”
The ten episode second season of AMC’s acclaimed western drama series Hell On Wheels is set to receive it UK premiere on TCM on Sunday January 6th at 9pm with a double-bill, TVWise has learned. Hell On Wheels was recently renewed for a third season of ten episodes, however, that renewal is currently on hold until such time as AMC and series producers Endemol, eOne and Nomadic Pictures agree on a new showrunner, following the departure of John Shiban earlier this month.
