EXCLUSIVE: I’ve just learned that Sky1 has cancelled comedy series Parents after just one season. The series aired six episodes on the channel between July and August 2012. The decision not to re-commission the series comes in the wake of Sky1 also cancelling action series Sinbad and fellow comedy series Spy.

With over 100 pilots currently in various stages of production, the five broadcast networks are set to start making decisions on which shows from the 2012-2013 season will be returning. Back by popular demand is TVWise’s broadcast TV buzz, which lists, by network, the latest industry intel (buzz if you will) on which shows will be back next year and which shows we will be saying goodbye to. We’re starting pretty early this year and as such everything is rather preliminary, so everything listed below should be taken with a grain of salt. In past years, by this time of year a good number of shows had already been granted early renewals. This year the shows that have received the early nod are The CW’s Arrow, Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries, CBS’ NCIS, The Big Bang Theory (as part of a previous deal) and How I Met Your Mother and Fox’s American Dad, Bob’s Burgers, Family Guy, The Simpsons, The Following, New Girl, The Mindy Project and Raising Hope.

EXCLUSIVE: I’ve learned that former Sinbad star Elliot Knight has landed (and I’m told already completed shooting) a guest lead on the seventh season of ITV’s Law & Order: UK. The exact nature of Knight’s role is being kept under wraps but one source tells me he was “a joy to work with.” A relative newcomer, Elliot Knight, repped by Affirmative Entertainment and Payne Management, is best know for playing the eponymous lead character on Sky1’s action series Sinbad, which was cancelled by the broadcaster last week. Law & Order: UK, produced by Kudos Film and Television and Wolf Films, is based on the well known US series Law & Order and follows the investigation of a major crime by the Metropolitan Police Service and the subsequent prosecution undertaken by the Crown Prosecution Service. The series was renewed by ITV with an 8 episode order back in August, with the broadcaster eyeing a May premiere.

BBC Two has given the green-light to Wipers Times, a a feature length movie about the satirical World War I magazine. TVWise first reported last November that the BBC was developing the project in conjunction with Trademark Films, although at the time it was unclear whether the project was being developed for BBC One or BBC Two. I have now confirmed that the film is being produced for BBC Two with Trademark eyeing theatrical releases in other countries.
