ReelzChannel has announced the premiere dates for three upcoming TV mini-series (Cat.8, Delete and Exploding Sun), which were acquired earlier this year as part of a package deal with Sonar Entertainment. Up first is Cat. 8 which premieres on Monday July 22nd at 8/7c. Delete follows on Monday August 19th at 8/7c. While Exploding Sun is the last to premiere on Monday September 9th at 8/7c.
BBC Four has closed a deal with NBCUniversal International Television Distribution to acquire the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to the 16 episode third season of NBC’s comedy series Parks and Recreation, TVWise has learned. I hear that the show’s third season is set to premiere on the channel in early 2014.
The 19 episode second season of TNT’s drama series Major Crimes will receive its UK premiere on Universal Channel on Monday August 5th at 9pm, it has been announced.
BBC Three has released a trailer for their upcoming six episode comedy series Badults, which is set to air lather this Summer.
BBC One has closed a deal with ITV Studios Global Entertainment to acquire the UK broadcast rights to Australian drama series The Doctor Blake Mysteries. The 10 part drama series, which has been acquired for BBC One’s daytime schedule, will air later this year.
BBC Four has released a trailer for their upcoming drama Burton and Taylor, which is set to air on BBC Four later this month.
EXCLUSIVE: Despite a recent bent towards focussing more on home-grown commissions rather than acquiring scripted content, acquisitions are still big business both for the UK buyers and the studios in Hollywood. These past two weeks saw a number of deals from last season’s crop of shows. Sky Living acquired Fox’s short-lived drama series The Mob Doctor from Sony Pictures Television, Lifetime confirmed their UK launch and acquired The Client List from SPT and Watch acquired Canadian drama series Saving Hope from eOne. And while no deals have YET been concluded for any of the new shows from the 2013-2014 season, there are a number of such deals that are currently being hammered out by various broadcasters and distributors (such as DMD’s S.H.I.E.L.D., SPT’s The Blacklist and CBSSI’s The Millers and We Are Men, to name a few).
